KAMLOOPS 2007 WAS A SUCCESS!

PhilCAS was invited to Kamloops this year to perform at a festival. This is PhilCAS second performance in Kamloops (the 1st was in 1999). PhilCAS stayed there for 2 days (October 13th and 14th) courtesy of the hospitable residents of Kamloops.

was a success and definately a night to remember. There was a great turnout and the audience loved the collaboration between the two groups to produce an unforgettable performance. The SEVEC website and the galleries will be updated soon.

Mabuhay 2007! a collaboration performance with our twin group from Toronto, The Folklorico Filipino Canada (www.folkloricofilipino.com) and also featuring the SAYAW PAMBATA…dance recital of PhilCAS little sisters and brothers from ages 6-12. It will be held at the St. Monica Parish Hall, Richmond, BC on July 29, 2007 at 7:00 pm. It'll be a festive event: booths with Filipino delicacies for sale,etc. Tickets at $10.00 each.

CONGRATULATIONS to Rachel Ambrosio and Vera Decena!!!!!!

Both have been selected to participate in the SEVEC Youth Advisory Committee. They will be flying to Ottawa from May 30 to June 1 to meet youth from across the country to share their opinions on improving exchanges and participating in leadership activities. During their two days in the city, they will learn to create video clips, how to write and produce interviews, as well as touring parliament and local newspaper and television studios. Rachel and Vera's term on the Committee will be for one year. Let's congratulate our young adults in this amazing opportunity. Website link http://www.sevec.ca/youth/council_e.asp

Off to Winnipeg!!!
PhilCAS has been invited to attend this year's 22nd Canadian Expressive Heritage Conference and CIOFF North American Conference held in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Tonette Gatus & Aimee Jo Milendres will be representing PhilCAS during this three day conference which will commence on May 18 through May 20. This is an opportunity for PhilCAS to share knowledge and experiences through the largest network of cultural organizations. It is a chance to meet directors of the best festivals and leaders of the folk ensembles of Canada. This Conference is a good way to find new ideas and to promote Intangible Cultural Heritage and Cultural Diversity.

Register your kids in our Children's Dance Workshop. It's a 14 week program that will give them the chance to learn the traditional dances of the Philippines, PhilCAS has represented BC in many cultural exchanges within Canada and abroad. These children will have the opportunity to participate in these exchanges in the future.

PhilCAS has safely returned from Europe after participating in two International festivals, Odoorn and Borsele. After two and a half weeks of being in a foreign land, the dancers still managed to make many friends from different nations. They promise to maintain their contact with their hosts and whoever else they had exchanged contact information with. You can visit the Europe Gallery and check out what PhilCAS was upto in Europe.
